2024 unit information
In this unit you will complete and submit your substantial, independent research project in history. Your progress will be guided in regular meetings with a supervisor approved by the History Department. You will continue to submit drafts at agreed times; you will continue to develop your expertise in relevant research methods and analytical skills, both in relation to the discipline of history as a whole and in relation to your specialist topic.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. demonstrate initiative and originality in research in History
- LO2. present a logical and persuasive argument, opening up new directions for future research on the issues addressed
- LO3. apply appropriate theories and methodologies used in History to their research project
- LO4. carefully analyse and show detailed understanding of the body of evidence under study
- LO5. demonstrate detailed understanding of and, where appropriate, critically evaluate relevant scholarship
- LO6. use careful citations and provide an appropriately extensive list of references acknowledging existing research and listing primary materials used
- LO7. communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely, in appropriate academic style
