IBUS1200: Fundamentals of Global Business

2027 unit information

This unit provides foundational knowledge in international business, global logistics, and supply chain management. It critically examines the strategies of multinational enterprises in the context of accelerating market internationalisation and increasingly integrated global production and supply chain distribution networks. Students analyse the strategic behaviour of firms from and operating in developed, emerging, and developing economies, evaluating the opportunities and challenges that shape cross-border operations. The unit integrates key theoretical frameworks on market entry strategies, foreign direct investment, international trade, and global value chains, enabling students to assess strategic decision-making at both the country and firm levels. Drawing on established and contemporary international business theories, students develop analytical capabilities to evaluate how multinational firms design, implement, and adapt global strategies in response to complex, shifting economic, institutional, geopolitical, and technological environments. Through applied analysis, the unit strengthens students’ capacity to interpret complex international business contexts and critically assess strategic choices that shape competitive positioning and long-term performance in global markets.
