IBUS2130: Ethics and Decision Making

2027 unit information

This unit explores the ethical dimensions of decision-making in international business, providing frameworks to navigate complex moral challenges across diverse cultural and institutional contexts. Effective business decisions require more than financial and strategic analysis; they demand an understanding of the ethical, social, and environmental factors that shape outcomes for multiple stakeholders. The unit examines how cognitive biases and organisational pressures influence moral judgment, how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence raise new accountability concerns, and how global supply chains create layered human rights responsibilities. Through real-world case studies and business simulations spanning corporate governance failures, data privacy, sustainability, and cross-cultural ethical dilemmas, the unit develops practical reasoning skills applicable to relations with governments, employees, consumers, and civil society. Upon completion of this unit, students will possess enhanced capacity for ethical analysis and responsible decision-making within international business organisations, equipping them to lead with integrity in an increasingly complex global environment.
