2023 unit information
This unit continues to examine specific rhythmic and harmonic applications that launch the student improviser into a world of precise and responsive creativity. Students will be required to apply, explore and review these techniques daily to embody the techniques into their individual improvised musical language. Theoretical studies focus on media studies representation and simulation; authorship in improvisation; cross-cultural collaborations and nationalism; Glocalization and the improvisational diaspora.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. Improvise music in a variety of contexts using clear techniques.
- LO2. Demonstrate intermediate practical skills relating to rhythm and meter, co-ordination, pitch, form and harmony.
- LO3. Work as an active participant in a collaborative, group-based and individual creative process.
- LO4. Present clear and concise analysis of musical works and texts in both written and oral form.
