MECO3606: Advanced Media Content Production

2024 unit information

In this unit, you will produce media stories that matter to you and your community. The aim is to develop innovative media content that builds upon your previous media production learning experiences and further develop your research, reporting and storytelling skills. You will learn from both established and emerging genres of media storytelling, working independently and collaboratively to develop your capacity to reflect on your media practice and create content that informs, educates and entertains.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Independently find, report and produce media feature stories that inform, educate and entertain.
  • LO2. Apply advanced research and reporting techniques and examine, select and adapt modes of journalistic storytelling to produce feature stories for a target audience
  • LO3. Compare and comprehend the affordances of different storytelling techniques, genres, media formats, platforms and outlets for producing effective and engaging media content in the public interest.
  • LO4. Evaluate and reflect on your practice in the context of broader debates and discussions about journalism and the role of media in society.
  • LO5. Propose and evaluate opportunities to adapt and innovate as a content producer.
