MECO6911: Financial and Investor Communication

2023 unit information

Effective communication of financial and business information stems from an understanding of how corporations should communicate and the environment in which they operate. This course links public relations theory with the practice areas of financial communication and investor relations. It combines an understanding of how investment markets work from a communications perspective with how to communicate with key stakeholders such as the media, investment community, shareholders and consumers of financial products.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. To recall key principles of communication from theory to apply to the field of financial and investor communication
  • LO2. To build knowledge around how companies communicate and the context which makes this important as a guide to understanding the value of corporate communication
  • LO3. To apply knowledge of communication theory as a template for developing characteristics of corporate communication
  • LO4. To analyse the priorities of information needed by stakeholders, especially from gaining an understanding of the financial components of investor communication
  • LO5. To be able to evaluate qualities of corporate communication that can be improved to achieve superior outcomes
  • LO6. To bring together elements of theory and practice to create a guide for how communication can add value for companies
