This unit explores the principles, applications and evolving role of artificial intelligence in medical imaging. It examines AI across the imaging pathway, including image acquisition and optimisation, image analysis and interpretation, clinical decision support, and workflow. Students will consider approaches to AI development and performance evaluation, validation and generalisability, human–AI interaction, clinical implementation, ethics, regulation, and responsible use of AI in healthcare.

Additional advice
This unit requires Departmental Permission only for undergraduate students enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Diagnostic Radiography) and will be assessed if they have completed 96cp of units with WAM of 75 or higher. Students enrolled in postgraduate Medical Imaging Science will automatically be permitted to enrol after they have applied for Department Permission.
