This OLE explores rugby league's historical and sociological evolution, from its working-class origins to a global sport. Students will evaluate the impact of media, commercialisation, and sponsorship on its growth and challenges. Diversity, inclusion, and gender equity will be examined, highlighting key milestones and participation barriers. Additionally, students will explore key aspects of player development pathways, coaching staff roles, and high-performance team dynamics. They will also examine training methodologies, game preparation strategies, and the challenges of managing game day operations.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO2. Assess the role of media, sponsorship, and commercialisation in the growth and transformation of rugby league, evaluating their ethical and societal implications.
  • LO3. Reflect on the importance of diversity, inclusion, and gender equity in rugby league, identifying key achievements and areas for ongoing improvement.
  • LO4. Apply fundamental sports science principles to analyse training methods, injury prevention strategies, and game performance in rugby league.
  • LO5. Identify and describe key coaching roles, team preparation strategies, and player development pathways, reflecting on their effectiveness in high-performance settings.
  • LO6. Design and deliver a visually engaging infographic that effectively communicates interdisciplinary insights into a specific aspect of rugby league.
