OLET1202: Entrepreneurship: Effectuation
2026 unit information
This unit of study explores how entrepreneurs can tackle problems and grow their ventures using effectual reasoning. Essentially, effectuation is a way of thinking that is focused on creating opportunities and solving problems by using the resources available to us, rather than making predictions and trying to plan for the future. Students will examine and apply the principles of effectuation to their own entrepreneurial interests through individual and group exercises. In doing so, they will analyse the resources necessary to achieve their entrepreneurial goals, map out their entrepreneurial ecosystems, understand the concept of risk in new venture creation, and learn how to improvise and adapt in the face of adversity. Students will also learn how to ‘pitch’ their entrepreneurial ideas effectively, and communicate their entrepreneurial journeys to different audiences.
