At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. use any digital device at your disposal, such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, to make an audio recording
  • LO2. perform a wide range of essential audio editing procedures such as cutting, fading, and cross-fading on audio you have created yourself
  • LO3. select and apply audio effects such as normalisation, equalisation, reverb, and compression to recordings you have made
  • LO4. know what kind of microphones and audio interfaces can be used to create more professional recordings
  • LO5. know how to deal with common problems when recording in the field
  • LO6. compile musical loops/samples and sound effects in multi-tracked sessions in a digital audio workstation/sequencer
  • LO7. apply an understanding of simple sound synthesis by synthesizing sounds to be used in a musical setting
  • LO8. program your own original drum beats
  • LO9. negotiate and complete your own digital audio project.
