Public presentation skills are integral to success in professional life. The focus of this unit of study is the development of the technical skills, personal style and physical confidence to present authoritative and relevant content on a topic about which the student has a passion or special knowledge. Students develop a unique and individual style of presentation while being aware of their own physicality, verbal skills and talents.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. gain an understanding of presentation skills, movement, speech and gesture, along with visual and aural tools relevant to presenting an argument or idea in a public forum
  • LO2. gain knowledge and confidence in the technological and multimedia tools available to support an effective public presentation
  • LO3. develop skills in the use of the voice and body in presenting an argument or idea to an audience, including basic posture, effective speech, gesture, movement and vocal projection
  • LO4. gain knowledge and confidence in one’s own unique performing skills and abilities
  • LO5. gain knowledge and confidence in effective use of language to persuade
  • LO6. learn inventiveness and communicating in a culturally competent manner across and range of contexts.
