At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. equip the student with the necessary theoretical understanding and performance skills to enable them to realize musically creative and stylistically appropriate accompaniments from the figured bass part of a range of baroque ensemble works.
  • LO2. demonstrate some basic keyboard improvisation skills.
  • LO3. show an understanding of the principal figurings and symbols commonly encountered in a figured bass and deliver a coherent and stylistically convincing accompaniment to a recitative and aria by, for example, G.Ph.Telemann (Foundation group)
  • LO4. show an understanding of the principal figurings and symbols commonly encountered in the figured bass part of works by J.S.Bach and deliver a coherent and stylistically appropriate accompaniment to a variety of movement forms (concerto, recitative, aria) by J.S. Bach (Advanced group)
