PHAR7816: Introduction to the Therapeutics Industry

2024 unit information

The unit will begin with an introduction to the history and structure of the therapeutics industry and where the industry fits into the healthcare system. It will then examine the role of therapeutics in improving health outcomes, examine policy drivers for the industry and introduce therapeutics industry ethics to students. The unit will conclude with a look at future directions for development of the therapeutics industry, particularly impacts of digital, artificial intelligence, real world evidence and patient voice initiatives.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO2. Critique the policy drivers of current and future models of therapeutics development.
  • LO3. Debate the reputation of the therapeutics industry and explore opportunities to enhance its reputation.
  • LO4. Develop active and reflective learning strategies.
