2024 unit information

Students will develop an approach to repertoire choice and development that will support their technical development. This semester focuses on the technical development with the aim of improving musical expression through their repertoire choice. On completion of this unit students should be able to demonstrate sound musical and technical skills that will underpin their instrumental studies at higher levels.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate a thorough understanding of all foundational aspects of instrumental technique and sound production on snare drum, mallets and timpani
  • LO2. study effectively a range of foundational studies and selected repertoire
  • LO3. demonstrate improved consistency in practice commitment and effectiveness
  • LO4. understand the principles of sticking, tuning (timpani), set-up design (multi-percussion) and other technical principles assisting the study of repertoire
  • LO5. demonstrate solo performance competency
  • LO6. demonstrate percussion ensemble performance skills.
  • LO7. Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements to succeed in this unit
