This course builds on the psychomotor, cognitive, literature review and communication skills that are necessary to develop in a career in surgery which are gained in previous clinical surgery courses. The course also provides opportunities for students to develop an ability to critically review the medical and scientific literature with a view to develop supportable, safe and competent clinical management for patients with surgical disease. Students will also have an opportunity to review the wider implications of surgery within the national and global health imperatives and to be able to communicate and defend their views competently. Candidates who wish to undertake the clinical components of the Doctor of Surgery must be eligible to undertake surgical training in Australia and be appointed to a SET training or higher position.
