SURG6022: Clinical Surgery Capstone

2026 unit information

This unit rounds off the psychomotor, cognitive, literature review and communication skills that are necessary to develop in a career in surgery which are gained in previous clinical surgery courses. The unit also provides opportunities for students to develop an ability to critically review the medical and scientific literature with a view to develop supportable, safe and competent clinical management for patients with surgical disease. Students will also have an opportunity to review the wider implications of surgery within the national and global health imperatives and to be able to communicate and defend their views competently. In this unit, students will have an opportunity to submit their research thesis from SURG6001-6006, which will be formally examined. Students will also have the opportunity to orally present a summary of their thesis, and defend its work in a viva voce examination. Satisfactory performance in the Clinical Surgery Capstone is mandatory to be awarded the Doctor of Clinical Surgery.
