Shaping Places examines the role of urban planning, design and heritage conservation in envisioning, shaping and managing urban places and their change. It introduces the principles, terms and concepts of contemporary planning, urban design and heritage conservation practice, and the tools, strategies and processes these professions use to co-create urban environments and systems. It illuminates how this occurs across stakeholders and within a range of cultural, political, technical, and institutional contexts. Students will critically engage with Australian and international case studies of urban change at different scales to explore how different visions of urban places and their change are formulated and implemented across disciplinary intersections.
