Undertaking independent research allows you to move from learning about conservation to actively shaping its future. This Honours Project enables students to design and lead an original research study in Wildlife Conservation, supporting projects that advance fundamental scientific understanding as well as applied research addressing contemporary biodiversity challenges. Drawing on disciplines such as zoology, ecology, evolutionary biology, and conservation science, the unit highlights how rigorous research underpins both theoretical insight and real world conservation decision making. Working closely with an academic supervisory team, you will develop a novel research question, formulate testable hypotheses, and design a robust research methodology. Projects may involve fieldwork, laboratory investigations, statistical or spatial analyses, modelling, or other research methodologies, depending on the research question. Assessment comprises a structured suite of scholarly outputs, including a written research proposal, critical literature review, oral research presentation, and a major research paper. Together, these tasks reflect professional research practice and develop advanced skills in scientific inquiry, data interpretation, and communication. Successful completion provides strong preparation for careers in wildlife conservation or as a pathway to PhD study.
