DECO3551: Design Computing General Elective A
2025 unit information
This elective allows a group of students to pursue a topic proposed by a member of academic staff in a formal learning environment. This unit of study is available to a minimum of 10 students to engage in a topic related to Design Computing that is organised by a member of academic staff. This allows a member of staff to teach a topic of special interest or for a visiting academic to teach a subject related to their specialty. Students will participate in lectures, tutorials, or other activities as needed to pursue the elective topic. The topic for this elective is proposed by a member of academic staff and approved by the Associate Dean (Education). Students will develop an understanding of a special topic through reports, projects, and tutorial exercises.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. use design as a framework for developing innovative biodesign applications
- LO2. compare emerging biotechnology and biomedical science for the design of products and systems
- LO3. iteratively prototype and validate ideas
- LO4. formulate solutions that demonstrate impact on human and planetary health
- LO5. evaluate the feasibility and potential of biodesign applications
- LO6. work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment to identify and implement a design brief.
