The 2026 National Student Safety Survey (NSSS) is being conducted across Australian universities by independent research organisation Roy Morgan on behalf of Universities Australia.
The survey captures students’ perceptions and experiences of safety, sexual violence and harm. The findings of the survey will help inform prevention efforts, strengthen support services and drive continued action across higher education institutions.
All students will be invited to participate from Monday 31 August and have until Monday 28 September to take part.
You should expect that your time at university is safe, respectful and free from harm, but we know this isn't the experience for everyone in our community. The National Student Safety Survey is your opportunity to be heard and shape safer campuses for everyone.
All students will receive an email invitation to participate in the survey on Monday 31 August. The email, sent from safetysurvey@roymorgan.com with the subject line 'Share your Experience – National Student Safety Survey 2026', contains a unique survey link, information about the survey, and support.
Participation is voluntary and confidential. Individual survey responses will not be shared with the University. The survey will be open between Monday 31 August to Monday 28 September and should take 15-25 minutes to complete depending on your answers and how many questions you choose to respond to. You can stop the survey at any time.
You will be reminded to complete the survey up to four times. If you do not wish to complete the survey or do not want to be reminded to do so, select ‘unsubscribe’ in the email invitation from Roy Morgan.
The survey includes a pathway designed to be compatible with screen-readers and assistive technologies. You can access this pathway from within the survey itself, using the link provided in your email invitation. If you would prefer a hardcopy version of the questionnaire, you can request one from the Roy Morgan Help Desk by emailing safetysurvey@roymorgan.com or calling 1800 687 254. For technical issues accessing or completing the survey, also contact the Roy Morgan Help Desk.
An aggregated report of student responses will be provided to the University for action and a combined national report of student insights from across the country will be published in Semester 1 2027.
