ARUP Night Walk

How safe do you feel walking home at night?

Presentation of research findings followed by a night walk to help participants understand urban environment at night.

Experiences of safety across our cities are not equal for all. In Australia 1 in 2 women don’t feel safe to walk home at night.

Arup recently collaborated with Plan International + XYX Lab Monash University to analyse the relationship between urban lighting and women’s perceptions of safety. The research struck on some compelling correlations between light levels, unsafe places and our urban nighttime environments.

We’d like to share with you the findings from this inclusive/participatory research at a special event we’re hosting at the XYX lab exhibition HyperSextCity.

As part of the event we would like to take you on a night walk to understand the urban environment in the evening. and we’ll show you through our eyes, some practical and unexpected examples of how lighting design can add, or detract from how one feels in the space
