We are proud of our record of growing partnerships with professional associations, global institutions, government organisations, and leading firms across architecture, design, planning, engineering and construction. These collaborations provide invaluable opportunities for shared knowledge, academic developments and networking.

Together we can develop innovative research projects, create impactful learning opportunities, and upskill your workforce in cutting edge technologies and industry best-practice. Find out more about how you can work with us.

Ways to work with us

We work with government, industry, professional organisations, and communities to develop research and evidence that address complex challenges across the built environment, design and cities.

Research partnership opportunities include:

  • Collaborative and commissioned research and consultancy
  • Joint competitive grant applications and research partnerships
  • Policy, advisory, evaluation and co-design
  • Access to specialist research facilities and technical capability
  • Data, prototyping, testing and technology development
  • Researcher, student and workforce capability development
  • Research translation and commercialisation opportunities

Through our internship program, we offer your organisation the opportunity to host undergraduate and postgraduate students across architecture, design and planning. Each internship is designed to be as beneficial as possible for both the student and host organisation.

Benefits for hosts:

  • Connect with the University: Your organisation gets a chance to connect with students and academics. This can lead to further partnerships such as research and professional development.
  • Reputation building: Partnering with the University of Sydney raises your company’s profile, and creates visibility for your organisation within the University and the wider community.
  • Partner for innovative solutions: Internships provide the opportunity for employers to engage with students who are learning the latest research and technological practices. Students can bring a fresh and dynamic approach to tasks and projects.
  • Engage with the next generation of built and virtual environment practitioners: Your experience is invaluable. By sharing your expertise and knowledge, you'll develop your mentorship skills and make a positive impact on the next generation of professionals.

Benefits for students

  • Learning into practice: Internships provide valuable opportunities for students to use their skills in a practical workplace setting. Students are able to enhance their studies by integrating course theory with current best practice.
  • Connect with industry: The practical skills and professional connections students make throughout their placement will enhance their future employability.

EMBARK is a career-focused conference for students at the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. Through enlightening discussions, Q&As, presentations and valuable networking opportunities, EMBARK provides an opportunity for our students to explore career possibilities after university. Key to the success of this program is the involvement of our alumni and industry professionals, who share their career journeys and industry insights with our students as they prepare to transition into their chosen careers.

Our active and engaged student societies facilitate careers meetups throughout the year. These sessions allow students to meet and network informally with industry, gain career advice and get a glimpse into career paths at a range of organisations across architecture, urban planning, construction, design and technology.

We work closely with our partners in industry and government to ensure our students have access to industry leading knowledge, cutting-edge technologies and real-world experiences. Our partners help us deliver a diverse range of engaging learning experiences for our students through curriculum delivery, guest lectures, studio briefs, field trips and study abroad opportunities.

From Narrabri to Berlin, we work with government and international institutions to offer field trips that allow our students to deepen their understanding of design challenges and solutions. We also work closely with our partners to develop briefs for students to respond to in studio learning units. These briefs allow our students to apply their learning to real-world problems and develop their practical skills. From designing crisis accommodation in Hobart, to developing sustainable housing in Jakarta, these briefs prepare our students for the realities of practice in the 21st century.

Scholarships enable students to access transformative educational experiences.

Through their generous contributions, industry partners such as Atlassian, Bates Smart, Cox Architecture and Lendlease, have funded scholarships and prizes to support the development of tomorrow’s built environment leaders.
