Courses in assessment for educators

The Centre for Educational Measurement and Assessment (CEMA) has a broad range of educational products and service available to support you.

National and state education assessment landscapes have grown in significance with data informing major education, accountability and investment decisions. Arguably more important, is the use of assessment and evidence at school level to inform teaching and improve learning outcomes.

The education community has identified an urgent need to develop teachers’ professional practice in these areas. This imperative is made more compelling by recent reports* which link professional learning, quality teaching including assessment practices, and improved student outcomes.

Assessing differentiated performance in the classroom: How to help all students grow and achieve curriculum outcomes

Overview

Join Professor Jim Tognolini, Director of the Centre for Educational Measurement and Assessment (CEMA) at the University of Sydney, for a thought-provoking and interactive workshop that tackles one of today’s critical challenges in education: how to assess and support student learning effectively in mixed-ability classrooms while getting consistency of teacher judgement against standard.

About Professor Jim Tognolini

A respected international expert in Educational Assessment, Professor Tognolini regularly advises and delivers workshops for international, national and state educational agencies. His work in advancing evidence-informed assessment practices is trusted by school leaders and educators globally.

The workshop involves participants sharing experiences and working collaboratively to develop practical examples that can be applied directly in their classrooms and schools.

What You'll Gain

In this 3-hour workshop, participants will gain the following:

  • Knowledge of modern assessment theory and its application in classroom.
  • Strategies and practice in unpacking curriculum outcomes in a way that enables student growth to be monitored and used as evidence to inform teaching and learning
  • Techniques for linking standards, curriculum, teaching and learning, and assessment in a coherent theory-supported manner
