Professor Leanne Redman, Academic Director of the Charles Perkins Centre, has been named a 2026 Excellence in Nutrition Fellow of the American Society for Nutrition (FASN), recognising her contributions to nutrition research and leadership in the field.

The Fellowship is one of the American Society for Nutrition’s highest honours, recognising active leaders whose research, service and sustained impact have advanced nutrition science and its application in practice.

Professor Redman is an internationally recognised leader in human energy balance, maternal nutrition, women’s health, healthy ageing and precision nutrition. Her research has helped shape clinical care, public health practice and nutrition policy, including work that has redefined understanding of energy requirements during pregnancy and contributed to emerging approaches in personalised nutrition.

The Fellowship also recognises Professor Redman’s leadership in major international research collaborations, including the US National Institutes of Health’s landmark Nutrition for Precision Health initiative, as well as her longstanding commitment to mentoring early- and mid-career researchers.

Since joining The University of Sydney in 2026 as Academic Director of the Charles Perkins Centre, Professor Redman has brought deep expertise in translational health research and a strong focus on addressing the complex systems driving chronic disease.

Professor Redman said she was honoured to receive the recognition from the American Society for Nutrition.

“This Fellowship reflects the extraordinary colleagues, collaborators and trainees I’ve had the privilege to work alongside throughout my career.

“Nutrition science has enormous potential to improve health, from maternal and early life health through to healthy ageing, and I’m proud to be part of a global research community working to translate that science into real-world impact,” Professor Redman said.

Established to recognise excellence among leaders in the prime of their careers, the Excellence in Nutrition Fellowship acknowledges researchers whose work has made exceptional contributions to nutrition science and its translation into real-world settings.

Professor Redman’s work spans human physiology, obesity, metabolism and precision nutrition, with particular impact in maternal and reproductive health, healthy ageing and chronic disease prevention.
