Discovering solutions for musculoskeletal pain
We discover solutions to alleviate the burden of musculoskeletal pain to Australians through close partnerships with researchers, patients, clinicians, industry leaders, and government agencies.

Our vision is to find the cure for low back pain and other musculoskeletal conditions, and contribute to reduce the burden of these conditions globally.

Our research expands from discovery research in genetics, twins, and families through clinical and implementation research in healthy lifestyle, digital solutions, evidence-based, and partnership projects in low back pain and other musculoskeletal conditions.

  • The Get Healthy Coaching ServiceĀ® to reduce the burden of low back painĀ
  • EHealth to empower patients with Musculoskeletal Pain in Rural Australia (EMPoweR)
  • Buddy-assisted intervention to increase physical activity in older people with low back pain
  • The AUstralian Twin low BACK pain study (AUTBACK study)
  • Musculoskeletal Pain Resilience
  • Efficacy of a drug education tool to reduce Paracetamol use in people with low back pain
  • Influence of initial health care and triage systems on outcomes and subsequent healthcare utilisation for patients with a new onset of low back pain
  • Sleep interventions for low back pain
  • Multicultural dance interventions for low back pain
  • Familial influences on mortality rates in people with low back pain
  • Genetics and environmental influences in spinal pain and biomechanics
  • Artificial Intelligence in back pain triage and clinical research
  • Financial burden of low back pain

Our program of research will:

  • significantly advance the field of musculoskeletal pain
  • reduce the burden of low back pain and other musculoskeletal conditions to patients, society, and government,
  • help to improve efficiency of health care services, and
  • improve the lives of millions of Australians currently living with musculoskeletal pain.
