Important: The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has accredited the Master of Professional Engineering (Software Engineering) and Master of Professional Engineering (Accelerated)(Software Engineering) at the professional level until the end of 2025. The University of Sydney is currently undergoing the review and reaccreditation process with the ACS and will publish an update on the accreditation status in December 2025.

The Master of Engineering allows you to build on your existing engineering undergraduate degree by developing specialised technical knowledge in one of 13 engineering specialisations:

Your prior qualifications or in some cases, work experience, may enable you to reduce the number of credit points required to complete your degree.

The Master of Professional Engineering will help you to develop the sound communications, management and decision-making capabilities necessary to interpret and discuss complex issues in your chosen area of specialisation.

This 3-year full-time degree will provide you with the engineering professional practice and research skills that lead to recognition as an Australian graduate engineer. Your qualifications will also be recognised internationally through the Washington Accord of the International Engineering Alliance.

Each of the following fields are either fully, provisionally, or in the process of being accredited by Engineers Australia, the national accreditation body.

Fast-track your degree

For those with an undergraduate engineering degree seeking accreditation in a related field, please consider the Master of Professional Engineering (Accelerated).

This two-year full time accelerated version of our Master of Professional Engineering degree is available to prospective students seeking accreditation who have previously graduated with an undergraduate engineering degree in a related field.

Our Master of Professional Engineering (Accelerated) degree is designed to provide you with the technical skills and sound communications, management and decision-making capabilities necessary to interpret and discuss complex issues in your chosen area of specialisation.
