Psychology is a discipline within the Faculty of Science that Bachelor of Arts students can also take, either as the Psychology program or as the Psychological Science major or minor. The Psychology program may only be completed in addition to a major from one of the subject areas listed under Table A of the Bachelor of Arts, and its requirements are listed in the Psychology unit of study table. Students taking the Psychological Science major or minor as their second major or minor must also complete a major or program from Table A of the Bachelor of Arts, with requirements listed in the Psychological Science unit of study table.
To ensure success, make sure you are aware of the required level of mathematics (assumed knowledge) for this curriculum component. Visit the mathematics learning support webpage, to understand your pathway to success, including the sequence of units you should complete and the support services available.
The Psychology Program is designed to both meet the requirements for accreditation so that students can engage in further training to become registered and practising psychologists AND/OR prepare students for higher degree research in one or more of the areas of Psychological Science.
Students who wish to undertake professional training at the postgraduate level to become registered psychologists must complete the full Psychology program, which requires the completion of two additional Psychology units.
The Psychological Science major and minor is designed for students who do not wish to train to become accredited psychologists. Rather, this is designed for students who wish to engage in higher degree research in one or more of the areas of psychological science and/or to complement their studies in another major where expertise in one or more of the areas of psychological science would be beneficial.
Please note: Psychological Science is not a pathway to professional accreditation as a Psychologist.
Appended honours in Psychology is available through admission to the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours). Read how to apply for honours as a current student.
