Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy

Admission requirements

Admission to the:

  • Graduate Certificate in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)
  • Graduate Diploma in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)
  • Master of Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)

requires a medical degree plus:

  • A minimum of 12 months’ experience in a clinical area related to mental health; and
  • Current professional indemnity insurance to practise psychotherapy in NSW; and
  • Satisfactory performance at an interview as required.

Admission to the:

  • Graduate Certificate in Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)
  • Graduate Diploma in Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)

requires a bachelor or postgraduate degree in a health or science related discipline plus:

  • A minimum of 12 months’ experience in a clinical area related to mental health; and
  • Current professional indemnity insurance to practise psychotherapy in NSW; and
  • Satisfactory performance at an interview as required.

Admission to the:

  • Master of Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)

requires successful completion of an embedded degree program (Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma) with a minimum credit average; OR a bachelor degree in a health or science-related discipline with honours; OR a bachelor degree plus a postgraduate degree in a health or science-related discipline. Admission to the Master of Science in Medicine also requires:

  • A minimum of 12 months’ experience in a clinical area related to mental health; and
  • Current professional indemnity insurance to practise psychotherapy in NSW; and
  • Satisfactory performance at an interview as required.

Admission to:

  • Master of Medicine (Advanced) (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy), and
  • Master of Science in Medicine (Advanced) (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)

requires the student to have completed the requirements for the Master’s program with an average mark of at least 75% in 24 credit points of compulsory or stream specific units of study.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate requires the successful completion of 24 credit points of stream specific units of study.

The Graduate Diploma requires the successful completion of 36 credit points of units of study including:

  • 6 credit points of compulsory units of study;
  • 24 credit points of stream specific units of study; and
  • 6 credit points of stream specific or general elective units of study.

The Master requires the successful completion of 48 credit points of units of study including:

  • 12 credit points of compulsory units of study;
  • 24 credit points of stream specific units of study; and
  • 12 credit points of stream specific or general elective units of study.

The Master (Advanced) requires the successful completion of 60 credit points of units of study including:

48 credit points of study as required for the Master; and

12 credit points of project units of study.

Pattern of enrolment

Please see Unit of Study tables for details of the units of study that must be completed for each award:

Year 1 = 24 credit points for Graduate Certificate

Year 2 = additional 12 credit points for Graduate Diploma

Year 3 = additional 12 credit points for Master’s

Year 4 = additional 12 credit points for Advanced Master’s
