The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health hosted 45 colleagues from across the Faculty of Medicine and Health, its networks, and our Waakibiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health (WBIIH) , University of Toronto, Indigenous research guests on a cultural immersion on Sydney Harbour, led by local Redfern organisation Tribal Warrior.
Cultural immersion tour wth Tribal Warrior.
We were privileged to be joined by University of Sydney Director of Indigenous Research, Professor Jaky Troy and some of her portfolio colleagues. The cultural immersion included a Sydney Harbour cruise and stop on Clark Island that provided time for on Country learning, a Smoking Ceremony that welcomed everyone to Country, and traditional dances. This immersion provided us all (local and global colleagues) of our responsibilities to uphold ongoing connection to Country on Gadigal Land.
This experience of two-way sharing of culture is a critical part of our ongoing partnership between the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and WBIIH, grounding our academic work, research, and everything that we do in Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing.
The University of Sydney's flagship program, the Doctor of Medicine (MD), has been re-designed to provide students with greater flexibility than ever before while placing added emphasis on clinical exposure, right from week one.
