A timeline of success at Westmead
This year we celebrate our 45th year of health collaboration with Westmead Health Precinct. The long standing partnership fosters academic innovation, healthcare excellence, and a shared commitment to advancing knowledge for the enhancement of health outcomes.
The University of Sydney has invested over $85 million into the precinct, providing new education spaces and facilities. The investment has bolstered Western Sydney's research and talent, positioning Westmead as a global leader in health.
“The Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney has had a long and vital partnership with Westmead to train many generations of health workers – who have made important contributions to their communities," said Executive Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor Medicine and Health Professor Robyn Ward AM.

Westmead Fertility Centre opensProviding more affordable access to parents in Western Sydney

Westmead discoveryThe Obstetrics and Gynaecology research team find conclusive evidence that smoking during pregnancy affects the foetus

New Centre opensCentre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology opens at Westmead, which will later become Sydney ID

Children's Hospital opensThe University of Sydney Children's Hospital Westmead Clinical School opens at Westmead Hospital

Westmead Millenium InstituteWe contribute investment to the new building for the Westmead Millenium Institute (now Westmead Institute of Medical Research). We sign a formal affiliation agreement with WIMR in 2011 which is renewed several times as we continue to work closely together.

Memorandum of UnderstandingWe sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) which leads to a longstanding relationship and a formal affiliation agreement in 2012. This affiliation was renewed for another five years in June 2023
