In this audio descriptive tour, Dr Lisa Andrew will guide you through some of the collection from ancient Egypt at the Chau Chak Wing Museum with a focus on objects representing Egyptian religion and burial practices. You will visit the Pharaonic Obsessions exhibition and the museum’s Mummy Room.
We will begin the session through audio description of items in the collection and strategically using tactile objects in the gallery where you will get the chance to handle Egyptian antiquities. Participants are encouraged to engage in an informal discussion about the objects you are touching and hearing about.
One of the tour highlights will be a Middle Kingdom wooden model boat
The group will meet Lisa in the museum foyer.
Dr Lisa Andrew is an artist whose research-based practice and pedagogy centres on the potential of Audio Description for an inclusive audience by weaving close looking, writing and expression with access in mind. A multisensorial approach that does not privilege sight, which asks, what can museums do for Audio Description? And what can Audio Description do for writing about art and museum collections?
