Join a free curator floor talk to explore the exhibition Kerameikos. The exhibition features commissioned works from seven leading contemporary artists: Idil Abdullahi, Glenn Barkley, Kirsten Coelho, Janet Fieldhouse, Juz Kitson, Monica Rani Rudhar and Vipoo Srivilasa. Each was asked to respond to the Chau Chak Wing Museum collection.
The kerameikos was the pottery production centre in an ancient Greek city. In our contemporary potters’ quarter, we welcome you to an ongoing dialogue between the past and present, and a celebration of ceramics as an enduring artistic medium.
In this floor talk, exhibition curator Candace Richards will discuss the processes behind the exhibition and speak about each artists’ individual response to the project.
Candace Richards is the assistant curator of the Nicholson Collection, and curator of the exhibition Kerameikos. Candace's research interests bring together ancient world studies with contemporary museum practice to re-evaluate how and why collections were formed and explore the ways archaeology and antiquities collections can offer new insights into human endeavour. Candace is particularly interested in multi-disciplinary and collaborative approaches to research design and exhibitions, with a particular interest in reception of the ancient Mediterranean across time.
Candace is an archaeologist interested in Mediterranean and Balkan archaeology and has worked on research and commercial excavations in Europe and Australia. She is a senior team member of the Paphos Theatre Archaeological Project (Cyprus) and is undertaking her PhD on the prolific reuse of architecture in the area of Nea Paphos, Cyprus from the Hellenistic period to the modern day.
