Join us for an informative and interactive program as we say farewell to the exhibition  Dance Protest, Project Banaba with a Talanoa (talk) and performances centred on Pacific dance. Cultural specialists will share their knowledge of different styles of Pacific dance, with a focus on Banaba, Kiribati, and the Cook Islands.

Across the Pacific, dance isn’t just about dancing; dance encapsulates culture, history, politics, and more! For those living in diaspora, dance plays a vital role in how individuals and communities celebrate their identities and stay connected to ancestral lands while adapting in new environments with a sense of efficacy and joy.

Professor Katerina Teaiwa will discuss the role of Dance in her exhibition ‘Dance Protest’ and themes of empowerment and identity through cultural dance with Morgan Hogg, a Sydney-based artist, dancer and creative producer of Cook Island Māori (Ngāti Tāne), Tahitian and English descent  with some dance performance to follow.

Come and hear and maybe learn a move or two!
