Celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Horse with a series of workstations throughout the museum that explore the Chinese zodiac and the remarkable stories of horses in human history, culture and art.
The horse (Mǎ) was crucial in Chinese history, driving military power, trade (including that along the Silk Road), agriculture, and transport. It symbolised strength, speed, and perseverance, and the horse became deeply embedded in mythology, art, and the Zodiac. Horses were also essential in western culture and the Chau Chak Wing Museum is home to many objects and artworks that depict horses.
In this fun-filled day, find horses across the museum collection in a horse hunt; help create and decorate your own horse art and learn more about the animal race at the heart of the Chinese zodiac and help us celebrate the Lunar New Year.
