The Sydney University Jazz Society (JazzSoc) will be showcasing two hours of classic jazz standards at one of USYD’s iconic locations: The Chau Chak Wing Museum. The ensemble, surrounded by the museum’s collections, will bring the room to life with swing and improvisation across multiple eras and styles of jazz: from the cool, melancholic ballads of Miles Davis to the fiery melodies of Charlie Parker, reimagined by Sydney University’s jazz musicians. Every solo is a vessel for the musicians to tell a story; a musical conversation of call and response, tension and release, where a jazz standard becomes something new every time it's played. Expect a lively, welcoming atmosphere perfect for a study break, or an excuse to hear live jazz with genuine passion. Whether you’re a seasoned jazz musician or someone who is completely new to the genre, there is something in this set for everyone.

JazzSoc strives to create a community that brings together folks who share a common interest in jazz music and performance, providing a safe haven for musicians of all skill levels and backgrounds. Beyond performance, JazzSoc also aims to foster appreciation for jazz culture and education on campus. By creating an inclusive and supportive environment, the society aims to help people build lasting connections, gain confidence as performers, and contribute to the vibrant music life of the university.
