Sophocles, the Athenian tragedian wrote Antigone in either 442 or 440 BCE when it was first performed at the Dionysia in Athens. The story of the Theban princess named Antigone, who was the oldest daughter of Oedipus, the exiled king of Thebes and queen Jocasta.
