The University of Sydney Madrigal Society is proud to present Stillness and Sound, an afternoon of a cappella music resonating through the unique spaces of the Chau Chak Wing Museum.

This concert explores how sound lingers across time, memory, and place, through songs of love, loss, and longing.

The programme spans centuries and styles: from the Renaissance madrigals of John Bennet, Jacques Arcadelt, and Claudio Monteverdi, to the beautiful folk settings of Gustav Holst’s ‘I Love My Love’ and Jón Ásgeirsson’s ‘Vísur Vatnsenda-Rósu’.

Join us and hear how the past continues to sound.

About the choir

The Sydney University Madrigal Society (MADS) began in 1999 as four students singing madrigals around a piano. Since then the Society has evolved into an eclectic chamber choir, performing Renaissance madrigals, chansons, villancico, lute songs, and everything else that strikes their fancy. The Madrigal Society have brought their light-hearted, spirited energy to Medieval Faires big and small. Following past concerts The Forest at the End of the World, The Odyssey, and Hymns to the Unsacred, they are delighted to now bring you an afternoon of singing for their debut performance at the Chau Chak Wing Museum.
