The University of Sydney Business School has announced the launch of the new MBA (Technology and Digital Strategy) – a highly interactive online program designed to meet the growing need for leaders with both commercial acumen and technological fluency.

Developed in close consultation with industry leaders and academic experts, the program is designed to equip professionals to lead at the intersection of technology and business strategy for productivity and value creation.

Unlike traditional MBAs that typically offer technology streams or electives, the new program has been developed specifically to integrate business leadership and technological capability into a single curriculum, including emerging technologies such as generative AI.

“We are proud to unveil a new chapter in our world-class MBA portfolio. This innovative new program expands the Business School’s MBA suite to serve a rapidly growing segment of professionals seeking flexibility and accessibility by providing our first fully online, dynamic degree,” said Professor Leisa Sargent, Dean, University of Sydney Business School.

“It marks a significant milestone in our mission to deliver transformational education that empowers responsible, future-focused leaders.”

The online delivery of the MBA (Technology and Digital Strategy) provides flexibility for working professionals while maintaining a high level of engagement through live, interactive sessions. Students will participate in real-time case discussions, collaborative projects, and workshops with faculty and peers to apply concepts directly to practical business challenges.

We are proud to unveil a new chapter in our world-class MBA portfolio [...] a significant milestone in our mission to deliver transformational education that empowers responsible, future-focused leaders.

Professor Guy Ford, Program Director for the MBA (Technology and Digital Strategy) said: “Technology now plays a central role in how organisations develop strategy, deliver products, manage operations, and build global capability.

“This program has been designed for those who recognise that effective leadership today requires not only commercial judgement but also a clear understanding of how emerging technologies drive business outcomes. It develops the ability to manage teams, projects, and organisations where data, platforms, and emerging technologies are central to growth and competitiveness.”

The curriculum is designed to build capability at the intersection of technology and business, ensuring graduates can make informed decisions, lead digital initiatives, and create value in technology-driven environments. The units cover subjects including:

  • Digital Collaboration
  • Emerging Technologies, Disruption and Foresight
  • Data-Driven Decision Making
  • AI and Digital Ethics
  • Managing Integrated Supply Chains

The program is designed for those seeking to deepen their business and technical expertise, as well as executives aiming to drive innovation and transformation initiatives within their organisations. It complements the University of Sydney’s current MBA degrees which focus on developing the personal and interpersonal skills required for leadership and management roles, as well core business skills in finance, people management and strategy through face-to-face learning.

Professor Ford said: “Graduates of this program will be able to operate confidently at the intersection of business and technology. They will be equipped to lead initiatives where technological change and strategic business objectives must be managed together.”

The MBA (Technology and Digital Strategy) is 1.5 years full-time and available part-time. Applications are open now for the first cohort in Semester 1 2026.
