Progression

Guide to important milestones in your journey as a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) student

As an HDR student, you are responsible for planning and maintaining your progress throughout your candidature to ensure you meet all requirements and submit your thesis on time.

You must begin progress planning early, in conjunction with your supervisor, as some progress requirements - known as milestones - have deadlines within your first few weeks of candidature.

Progress planning is done through the University’s Research Education Candidature System (RECS) in one of two ways, depending on when you began your HDR degree:

The milestones and goals that appear in your RECS record comprise your progress plan.

You must plan and record your progress using the Progress Plan template on RECS (under ‘Guides’), which you must then upload as evidence of your progress to supplement the milestones and goals that appear in your RECS record.
