Eccentric exercise to improve joint flexibility

Eccentric exercise improves joint flexibilty or range of motion, but it is not known what components of eccentric exercise are most effective. This project aims to examine different protocols of eccentric exercise to determine which components are most effective at increasing joint range of motion. Related projects aim to assess the effectiveness of these protocols in people with neurological conditions who have contracture (abnormal loss of range of motion). Findings from this research are significant and may impact the treatment and management of contracture in neurological populations and rehabilitation.  

Additional information

This project would suit a student with a background in physiotherapy, human movement science, medical science, or a related discipline. You will learn to understand and interpret biological signals in this project. You will also have opportunities to learn to process and analyse data using modern computing techniques, along with mechanical skills and basic electronics. We are passionate about good science, and aim to teach you responsible research practices in a stimulating environment.
