TENS & psychophysiological responses to pain

A research study investigating the effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) on pain sensitivity.

Volunteers are wanted to take part in a research study investigating the effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) on pain sensitivity. TENS involves passing a low voltage (and often undetectable) current through your skin to stimulate the nerves. Pain sensitivity will be assessed at level set by you.
The study involves a single 1hr session and you will be reimbursed for the costs associated with participating. The study is being conducted in the School of Psychology, University of Sydney.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • are a healthy adult (18 years or older)
  • are fluent in English
  • not currently experiencing pain
  • not currently taking pain killers
  • have no previous or existing heart problems
  • have no prior experience with a TENS device
  • do not suffer from colour blindness of any form
