Dr Marie Stevenson
Thesis Proposal Coordinator
Marie Stevenson is an applied linguist and educationalist whose main fields of expertise are literacy and language teaching. She has researched and written on a wide range of topics within these fields, including second language writing, academic literacy, literacy and technology, and teacher discourse. She has a keen interest in issues surrounding literacy and language education of both foreign language learners and migrants.
Writing, particularly in a second language
She is interested in writing from a wide variety of perspectives, and is particularly interested in how cognitive, linguistic and social perspectives on writing can be integrated.
Literacy and technology
She is interested in the critical examination of the use of technologies to develop literacy.
Discourse
She is interested in language use in written and spoken texts, and in the Discourses underlying this language use.
Equity and social justice
She is interested in issues surrounding equity and social justice in language and literacy policy and education, particularly in relation to migrants and refugees.
She is interested in supervision in the areas of:
* Writing, particularly in a second language
* Discourse and language use
* Literacy and technology
* Social justice in language and literacy policy and education
