  • qualify for entry and recieve an unconditional offer of admission into an undergraduate program (including combined degrees) in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney
  • be able to demonstrate financial hardship, a medical condition, or be from a rural or remote area.

Background

This Scholarship was established in 2010 through a generous donation to support a student with high academic ability who may be facing financial hardship, medical conditions, or are from a rural or remote area and is enrolled in a degree in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

1. Background

This Scholarship was established in 2010 through a generous donation to support a student with high academic ability who may be facing financial hardship, medical conditions, or are from a rural or remote area and is enrolled in a degree in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be current school leavers who qualify for entry into an undergraduate program (including combined degrees) in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission to a bachelor’s degree (including combined degrees) in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

c. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.

d. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial hardship, a medical condition, or be from a rural or remote area.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, and one or more of the following:
i. supporting documentation that provides evidence of financial hardship,
ii. supporting documentation that provides evidence of a medical condition, or
iii. supporting documentation that provides evidence that the applicant’s residential address is inner regional, outer regional, remote or very remote as classified by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Classification.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Associate Dean (Education) of the Faculty of Engineering, or their nominated delegates.

4. Value

The Scholarship is valued at $12,000 per annum and is tenable for the full duration of the student’s candidature including combined degrees and an honours year if required.

a. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

b. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.

c. The Scholarship is not transferrable to another faculty or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

 

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must remain enrolled in their undergraduate Engineering degree

b. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester.

c. The Recipient must seek approval to suspend their candidature. Recipients with approved suspension can continue their scholarship after returning from suspension.

d. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. changes their degree during the tenure of the scholarship without prior approval of the Associate Dean (Education),
III. commences part-time study without prior approval,
IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
VI. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship,
VII. accepts an alternative scholarship administered by the Faculty of Engineering or any School within the Faculty of Engineering, valued at $6,000 per annum or more for the same purpose of this Scholarship. The exception to this is where the recipient is awarded a placement scholarship, in which case this scholarship will be suspended for the duration of the placement. It will be reinstated at the completion of the placement if there is any scholarship candidature remaining. The value of this scholarship for the period of the placement will be forfeited,
VIII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
IX. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
