Who's eligible
Norman Matheson Student Support Scholarship in Agriculture Honours
You must:
- be currently enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Agricultural Science Honours degree administered by the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney
- be undertaking field work and other research at rural sites as part of your degree and therefore be enrolled in AGRI4002 in Semester 1 and AGRI4003 in Semester 2 in a calendar year
- enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Agriculture) or the Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Agriculture) (Plant Production), and enrolled in AGRI4002.
Roy Frederick Turner Scholarship in Agriculture Honours
You must:
- be currently enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Agricultural Science Honours degree administered by the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney
- be enrolled in AGRI4002 in Semester 1 and AGRI4003 in Semester 2 in a calendar year
- enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Agriculture) or the Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Agriculture) (Plant Production), and enrolled in AGRI4002.
Background
Both scholarships support Honours students in agriculture undertaking field work and other research at rural sites.
1. Background
a. Established in 2015 by a gift in honour of Professor Norman Matheson, a graduate of the University and former academic in Agricultural Chemistry at the University of Sydney from 1964 until his retirement, this scholarship supports Honours students in agriculture undertaking field work and other research at rural sites.
2. Eligibility
a. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Agricultural Science Honours administered by the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney.
b. Applicants must be undertaking field work and other research at rural sites as part of their degree and therefore be enrolled in AGRI4002 in Semester 1 and AGRI4003 in Semester 2 in a calendar year.
c. Applicants enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Agriculture) or the Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Agriculture) (Plant Production), and enrolled in AGRI4002, will be eligible for this scholarship.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded based on:
I. academic merit, and
II. undertaking field work and other research at rural sits as part of their degree.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of the School of Life and Environmental Sciences Head of School, or their nominated delegate(s).
4. Value
a. This Scholarship valued at $3,000 per annum for up to one year.
b. The Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each relevant semester.
c. Recipients approved to enrol in only AGRI4002 in one calendar year will receive a scholarship valued at $1,500 (one-off payment) to be paid after the relevant semester census date.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing Eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must be undertaking field work and other research at rural sites and therefore be enrolled in AGRI4002 in Semester 1 and AGRI4003 in Semester 2 in a calendar year.
b. If recipients enrol part-time in their degree, they must seek prior approval to hold the scholarship on a part-time basis. The payments may be paid on a pro-rata basis.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. withdraws from AGRI4002 and AGRI4003 or fails to enrol,
III. enrols part-time without prior approval,
IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
7. Report
a. Successful recipients will be asked to provide a report at the end of their Honours degree detailing the field trip and how the Scholarship assisted them in undertaking the field trip.
