The Scholarship s funded by research funds of Dr Haihui Joy Jiang of the School of Chemistry.
1. Background
a. This scholarship has been established to reward high-performing students who are completing their Bachelor of Science (Advanced) degree with a significant amount of research experience in Green Chemistry and Materials Science, in parallel to achieving academic excellence at the University of Sydney.
b. The Scholarship s funded by research funds of Dr Haihui Joy Jiang of the School of Chemistry.
2. Eligibility
a. Applicants must be a domestic student.
b. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled in full-time or part-time in a Bachelor of Science (Advanced) degree within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.
c. Applicants must have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 85 or above.
d. Applicants must be double majoring Chemistry and another discipline (e.g. Physics, Data Science, or another science-related discipline) within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.
e. Applicants must have recently completed a scholarship-based research project (e.g. Denison Research Scholarship).
f. Applicants must have research experience in Green Chemistry (e.g. aqueous electrochemical synthesis or low-carbon materials).
g. Applicants must currently be conducting non-credit research in green chemistry average one day per week, in parallel to their credit-based coursework studies.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit (transcripts),
II. interview, and
III. academic CV including prior research experience and current research topic.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the relevant research supervisor of the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney.
4. Value
a. The Scholarship is valued at $3,000 as fixed amount and as one-off payment.
b. A successful recipient enrolled part-time will be provided full amount of the award, subject to acknowledge research excellence in parallel to achieving coursework excellence.
c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the relevant research supervisor and it is not transferable to another area of research, University school, faculty or university without prior approval.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing Eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must continue achieving both academic and research excellence throughout the scholarship tenure.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
IV. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
