How to apply

You must apply through UAC Equity Scholarship and application form to be considered for this Scholarship.

All supporting documents need to be submitted to UAC by 31 January 2024 in order to be considered for scholarship offers in March 2024.

The successful candidates will be advised by email by end March or early April 2024.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • be domestic or international students
  • be currently enrolled full-time in 2nd or 3rd year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney in the year the scholarship is awarded
  • be able to demonstrate financial hardship via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) Equity Scholarship.

Background

This Scholarship is established in 2022 to recognise the legacy of Professor Frazer Allan, Dean/Head of University of Sydney School of Veterinary Sciences from 2018, who sadly passed away in 2021. Frazer brought the worlds of private practice and veterinary education closer together during a distinguished career in the veterinary profession. He worked in private practice for many years, honing his skills and developing a vast array of hands-on experience as a successful veterinarian. Frazer’s experience in private practice and veterinary education made him an exceptional leader and asset to the University of Sydney School of Veterinary Science.

Through generous donations, this scholarship is intended to support students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney who are experiencing financial hardship.

1. Background

a. This Scholarship is established in 2022 to recognise the legacy of Professor Frazer Allan, Dean/Head of University of Sydney School of Veterinary Sciences from 2018, who sadly passed away in 2021. b. Through generous donations this scholarship is intended to support students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney who are experiencing financial hardship.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled full-time in 2nd or 3rd year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney in the year the scholarship is awarded.

b. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial hardship via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) Equity Scholarship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit,

II. evidence of financial hardship via the UAC Equity Scholarship, and

III. a personal statement outlining your interests in veterinary sciences and how the scholarship will assist with your studies.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of the Head of School/Dean of School of the Sydney School of Veterinary Science and academics from the School of Veterinary Science, or their nominated delegate(s).

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $7,500 per annum and is tenable for one year.

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of Head of School/Dean of School of the Sydney School of Veterinary Science or nominated delegate(s), and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university without prior approval.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester.

b. Recipients must remain enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney unless prior approval is sought to study part-time, due to extenuating circumstances such as a medical condition that limits the recipient’s capacity to study full-time.

c. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney or fails to enrol,

II. commences part-time study without prior approval,

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

V. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,600 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship,

VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
