The Scholarship will be paid as one-off payment at the mid-point of the research project engagement with the following values:
I. $1,750 for research projects of 3 weeks duration (full-time engagement),
II. $3,500 for research projects of 6 weeks duration (full-time engagement), or
III. $4,083 for research projects of 7 weeks duration (full-time engagement).

1. Background
a. This scholarship has been established to support high-performing undergraduate students to conduct experimental research in green chemistry (the research project) during the summer vacation period at the University of Sydney.
b. The research project is on-site research within the School of Chemistry and for a full-time commitment of 38 hrs per week with projects available over a 3-week, 6-week or 7-week period.
c. The Scholarship is funded by research funds of Dr Haihui Joy Jiang of the School of Chemistry through the Sydney Horizon Fellowship.
2. Eligibility
a. Applicants must be either a domestic student or international student.
b. Applicants must be currently enrolled in full-time or part-time undergraduate degree (including Honours) in either the Faculty of Science or the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.
c. Applicants must have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 80 or above.
d. Applicants must be majoring in chemistry or a materials science-related discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Biomedical Engineering) at the University of Sydney.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit (transcripts),
II. a required interview, and
III. academic CV including prior research experience.
b. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate:
I. A strong knowledge in undergraduate Chemistry and have previously completed the core units CHEM1 and CHEM2,
II. Prior research experience in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering,
III. Relevant research and experimental skills.
c. The project duration will be discussed with the candidates during the selection process interview.
d. The Scholarship will be awarded by the relevant research supervisor of the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney.
4. Value
a. The Scholarship will be paid as one-off payment at the mid-point of the research project engagement with the following values:
I. $1,750 for research projects of 3 weeks duration (full-time engagement),
II. $3,500 for research projects of 6 weeks duration (full-time engagement), or
III. $4,083 for research projects of 7 weeks duration (full-time engagement).
b. The project duration and relevant scholarship value will be stipulated in the scholarship offer letter at the time of award.
c. If recipients plan to conduct part time research, they must seek prior approval from supervisor Dr Haihui Joy Jiang of the School of Chemistry. The payments will be paid on a pro-rata basis.
d. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted and it is not transferable to another area of research, University school, faculty or university.
e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
f. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. Recipients must conduct on-site research supervised by Dr Haihui Joy Jiang of the School of Chemistry and maintain satisfactory performance of their research project to receive the scholarship payments as indicated in clause 4a.
b. Recipients must enrol and continue to be enrolled in their degree.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. withdraws or transfers from the research project without prior approval from the relevant research supervisor,
III. does not maintain satisfactory research performance,
IV. does not conduct research according to the agreed schedule,
V. is determined by the University, to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
