  • be enrolled in undergraduate non-award units of study within the School of Mathematics and Statistics
  • demonstrate outstanding academic results within mathematics and statistics disciplines.

Established in 2025 from the K E Bullen Scholarship Bequest, this scholarship aims to support high school students enrolled in non-award units in the School of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

 

1. Background

a. Established in 2025 from the K E Bullen Scholarship Bequest, this scholarship aims to support high school students enrolled in non-award units in the School of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be domestic full-fee paying commencing or continuing students undertaking high school studies (prior to completing their HSC or equivalent) and enrolled in undergraduate non-award units of study within the School of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic results within mathematics and statistics disciplines.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit in HSC mathematics and
II. a personal statement which outlines how the Scholarship will assist the applicant achieve their educational goals. 

b. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate significant ongoing financial hardship and any other relevant hardship through supporting documents such as a Centrelink statement and a personal statement.

c. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, or their nominated delegate(s).

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at a maximum amount of $6,000.00. The final amount will be advised in the scholarship letter of offer.

b. The Scholarship payment will be processed after the census date of the relevant semester in which the units of study are being undertaken.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted, and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from any nominated units of study,
II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance or complete academic requirements,
III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or
IV. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
