You must:

  • be currently enrolled student in either full-time or part- time 
  • be currently enrolled in in an undergraduate science degree and undergraduate engineering degrees (including combined, single degrees, science or engineering major) within the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering.

Background

This scholarship has been established to provide short-term research opportunities in quantum science to outstanding undergraduate students.

The scholarship provides support to students who will undertake a six-week full-time research project during the Winter or Summer teaching breaks.

1. Background

a. This scholarship has been established to provide short-term research opportunities in quantum science to outstanding undergraduate students.

b. The scholarship provides support to students who will undertake a six-week full-time research project during the Winter or Summer teaching breaks.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled in either full-time or part- time in an undergraduate science degree and undergraduate engineering degrees (including combined, single degrees, science or engineering major) within the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. supervisor nomination, and
II. academic merit (transcripts), and
III. a brief personal statement that demonstrates excellence in research in quantum science and technology and addresses 3(b) below.

b. Preference will be given to applicants from groups that are under-represented in quantum science and technology. This may include but are not limited to:
I. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students,
II. people who identify as LGBTQIA+,
III. people with disability or who care for a person with disability, or who have other caring responsibilities,
IV. first-generation university students (i.e., people whose parents or guardians did not attend university),
V. People returning to study later in life as a career change or after an extended break,
VI. People from a refugee background,
VII. people experiencing financial hardship, or
VIII. people who have experienced domestic violence.

c. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of the Quantum Science Research supervisor, or their nominated delegates.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $3,000 for the duration of 6 weeks full-time research or equivalent as agreed by the relevant research supervisor.

b. The actual Scholarship payment schedule will be provided in the offer letter.

c. Deferral of the scholarship is permitted upon agreement with and approval by the research supervisor.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain satisfactory performance for the duration of research project.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. commences part-time study without prior approval,
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic or research project performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
