How to apply
1. Complete the online form.
2. Email your COA document: email a copy of your Confirmation of Aboriginality (COA) to: dvciss.scholarships@sydney.edu.au. If possible, please set the sensitivity level of your email to “Highly Protected”. Please see the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015 (as amended or replaced) for what documents are accepted.
3. Include your Student ID in the subject line: Please use the format "MyGadigal Scholarship COA Submission – [Student ID]" as the subject line in your email
First round of applications closes on 15th September.
Benefits
The MyGadigal Postgraduate Scholarship provides a cash stipend valued at AUD $5,000 as a one-off payment only, and cannot be received more than once in the same scholarship year, including where a recipient changes courses or enrolment status during the year.
The Scholarship is an equity initiative developed in partnership between the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy and Services (DVC ISS) and the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education and Students (DVC ES), building on the principles of the MySydney Scheme, and endorsed by the Needs Based Funding Steering Committee for pilot delivery in 2026.
Who's eligible
You must:
identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, or both in accordance with the University's Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy
be a domestic student enrolled in a postgraduate award course (as defined in the Coursework Policy, as amended or replaced), or a higher degree by research course (as defined in the University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2026, as amended or replaced) at the University of Sydney,
- remain enrolled in the course after census date 31 August 2026.
Background
The purpose of the MyGadigal Postgraduate Scholarship (Scholarship) is to increase the access, participation and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of Sydney (University), by providing financial support to eligible Indigenous postgraduate students
1. Background
a. The purpose of the MyGadigal Postgraduate Scholarship (Scholarship) is to increase the access, participation and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of Sydney (University), by providing financial support to eligible Indigenous postgraduate students
b. 2. Eligibility
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must:
a. Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, or both, as defined in the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015 (as amended or replaced).
b. Be a domestic student enrolled in a postgraduate award course (as defined in the Coursework Policy, as amended or replaced), or a higher degree by research course (as defined in the University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2026, as amended or replaced) at the University of Sydney,
c. Remain enrolled in the course after census date 31 August 2026.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of demonstrating financial need as stated in the application.
b. The Scholarship is awarded by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy and Services (DVC ISS), on recommendations of the MyGadigal Postgraduate Scholarship Administrator.
4. Value
a. Full-time study
i. The Scholarship provides a one-off cash payment of AUD $5,000. The Scholarship is paid once only and cannot be received more than once in the same scholarship year, including where a recipient changes courses or enrolment status during the year.
b. Part-time study
i. Recipients enrolled in part-time study, defined as a study load of 50% or less of the standard full-time credit point load for their course, will receive Scholarship benefits at 50% of the full-time benefit, being a one-off cash payment of AUD $2,500.
c. The Scholarship is a cash payment only and does not cover tuition fees directly but can be used by the student for tuition fees.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No extension is possible.
f. No other amount is payable.
5. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
i. No longer meet the Eligibility Criteria, or any other requirement set out in the Scholarship Details or Terms and Conditions;
ii. Breaches any Terms and Conditions;
iii. Withdraws from their enrolled postgraduate award course or higher degree by research course;
iv. Is determined by the University to be guilty of misconduct, as specified in the University of Sydney Student Discipline Rule (as amended or replaced), including having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application;
v. The recipient was awarded in error; or
vi. The funds are reduced or cease to be available.
b. Once terminated, the Scholarship will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of misconduct, the University reserves the right to request reimbursement of any Scholarship funds paid.
6. Privacy
a. The University collects and uses recipients’ personal information for the purpose of administering and maintaining the Scholarship, the University’s scholarship processes and for making Scholarship payments to the recipient, in accordance with the University’s business requirements and legal obligations.
